Rain and old stone
Old stone changes colour in the rain. Limestone goes grey-blue, sandstone darkens to the colour of strong tea, and the lichen suddenly looks bright, as if someone turned it up.
If you want to read the repairs on a bridge, go in the rain. New stone and old stone dry at different speeds, and for twenty minutes after a shower the patchwork is obvious.
